Ragn-Sells leachate water project

Before: black, foul-smelling leachate and two struggling aerators. After: five aerators, three bioreactors and floating barriers — a complete treatment train.

The customer's challenge

At Ragn-Sells' Häradsudden landfill outside Norrköping, only two aerators served the aerated pond — and the leachate was black, foul-smelling and in clear need of treatment.

The solution

In May 2019, three aerators were installed in the pre-pond, with an additional two aerators and a bioreactor added to the aerated pond. In March 2020, two more bioreactors were installed. During the summer, floating barriers were added to force the water through the section where the three bioreactors operate — eliminating hydraulic short-circuits.

Flow from pond L1 to L2

The result

Sampling at points L1 (after the pre-pond) and L2 (after the aerated pond) shows a clear positive trend in the analysis values for the parameters targeted by the aerators and bioreactors — documented in the evaluation diagrams below.
