Landfill leachate treatment solutions

The full technical picture: how aerators, bioreactors, floating baffles and BioS microbes work together to treat one of the most challenging liquids there is.

Leachate is one of the most challenging liquids to treat. As water percolates through a landfill, it creates a complex mixture of organic matter, heavy metals, nutrients and highly persistent hazardous substances such as PFAS. Meeting today's strict discharge limits requires more than simple filtration — it demands treatment technology that integrates biology, mechanical power and hydrological control.

Eden Aquatech has 30 years of experience designing solutions for exactly these challenges. By integrating our patented aerators and bioreactors with floating baffles and BioS microbes, we achieve a comprehensive reduction of pollutants tailored to the water's composition.

Floating baffles — maximum retention time and precision

The greatest risk in open lagoons is hydraulic short-circuiting: untreated water finding "shortcuts" through the treatment stages. Our floating baffles eliminate this risk:

  • Elimination of hydraulic short-circuiting. The baffles direct the water flow, ensuring every drop achieves maximum contact with the aeration system and the BioS microbes.
  • Optimized retention time. By extending the flow path, microorganisms get the time they need to break down even the most recalcitrant pollutants.
  • Prevention of anaerobic zones. The baffles prevent stagnation and distribute oxygen from AirTURBO™ and the biological treatment evenly through the entire volume.

Dosing of bacterial cultures

Our technology is built on bioaugmentation — introducing specific bacterial cultures tailored to the unique challenges of your site. Organic matter, ammonium and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) are broken down into harmless byproducts such as water, carbon dioxide and nitrogen — entirely without chemical additives. Beneficial bacteria outcompete undesirable microorganisms, and the 100% natural, GMO-free system reduces odor, corrosion and operating costs alike.

AirTURBO™ RV2 — high-performance aeration

With over 200 installations in Scandinavia since the 1990s, AirTURBO™ RV2 creates the stable aerobic zone that nitrifying bacteria need to break down ammonium:

  • Maximum aeration for nitrogen removal — large volumes of atmospheric air create a stable aerobic zone.
  • IE5 technology cuts energy costs by 50% — normal operation consumes only approx. 2.5–3.0 kW.
  • Eliminates odor and "black water" — active aeration breaks stagnation and stops hydrogen sulfide formation.
  • Robust, low-maintenance design — soft-start and self-regulating speed minimize wear.
  • Scalable — the number of units is easily adapted to surface area and pollution load.

HolKof™ Bioreactor — compact, efficient nitrogen removal

HolKof™ is a patented, mobile bioreactor designed for one of the primary challenges facing landfill operators: high ammonium concentrations. A standard unit provides over 1,800 m² of active biofilm surface area, converting ammonium into harmless nitrogen gas in several stages — chemical-free, compact and significantly cheaper than a stationary treatment plant.
